How to use Auto-Tracking with the three different redaction modes?

When using the auto-tracking on version 5.5.0 (and later) we have changed how you select to track someone, this change is across all three blur modes on Identity Cloak. This article will take you through how these changes affect each way.

Automatic redaction mode

The automatic redaction mode is the default mode, this means if you do nothing but click next everyone within the video will be redacted. Thus, when you are on the redaction screen in this mode you will want to select the person(s) you wish to keep in the clear.

When you move into the redaction screen of Identity Cloak, you will find that there are blue circles over the heads of the individuals in your video.

Once you have identified who you which to keep in the clear follow these steps:

  1. Identify the person you wish to keep in the clear
  2. Select the circle that is over their head
  3. The video will now play through until this person is no longer within the shot
    1. If the person reappears in the clip later on you can use your hotkey N (on your keyboard) to skip frames until they reappear) then click on the new circle overlapping their head. This will match up the sections to create 1 longer track for the individual rather than multiple shorter tracks
  4. Once you have your completed track hit 'Save' which sits under the tracklist on the righthand side panel.
  5. Once you have tracked everyone you wish to keep in the clear, click 'Next' to move on to the adjustment screen.

If you need to track multiple people you will need to repeat these steps until each person has their own track. You can only select one person to track at a time.

Inverse mode

Our inverse mode works the opposite way to the automatic redaction mode, this means that if you were to do nothing other than click next everyone would still be in the clear. When using this mode you will select the person(s) you wish to redact in the video.

Here are the steps to use the inverse mode:

  1. Tick the checkbox labelled as 'Inverse' on the bottom of the righthand panel on the redaction screen. (If the inverse is greyed out please click clear at the top of the track list).

The circles that overlap everyone's heads will now be an outline.
  2. Once you have identified whom you wish to redact, select the circle around their head.
  3. The video will now play through until this person is no longer within shot
  5. Once you have tracked everyone you wish to redact, click 'Next' to move on to the adjustment screen.

If you need to track multiple people you will need to repeat these steps until each person has their own track. You can only select one person to track at a time.

Full-Screen Blur Mode

This is a different way of redacting from the other two modes as the whole screen will be redacted.

We suggest using the full-screen blur mode when you’re in a sensitive area, where you want the whole general area to be redacted. This can be useful if you need to prove that someone was in the area, are interested in what is happening in a small section of the area or you need to blur a particular section of video.

To allow you to have the flexibility to use the full-screen blur there are multiple ways to use this mode: firstly, with Auto-tracking, secondly with manual tracking and finally with dynamic adjustment. This article will take you through the steps on how to use full-screen blur mode with auto-tracking. If you wish to learn about how to use manual redaction or dynamic adjustment please refer to the articles on those features.

  1. Tick the checkbox labelled as 'Full Screen Blur' on the bottom of the righthand panel on the redaction screen. (If the Full-Screen Blur is greyed out please click clear at the top of the track list).Screenshot 2023-07-26 at 11.53.52-1
